He was known to fans of the show “Une saison au zoo”: the white lion Jabu, resident of the zoo of La Flèche, died at the end of April from cancer, announced the Sarthois park on Tuesday, May 11.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce that Jabu, our male white lion, left us abruptly a few weeks ago, at the beautiful age of 15 years”, wrote the zoo of La Flèche on its Facebook page. Jabu suffered from lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.
“It was very complicated to tell the whole community because we knew that the emotion was going to be very strong. We all shared beautiful photos with Jabu, he was a bit of the animal mascot of the park because he was at at the same time very charismatic but also very protective “, declared Sandra Vivien, responsible for the communication of the zoo, on the radio France Blue. Under the Facebook post, more than 2,000 comments have been posted by Internet users to pay tribute to the feline.
With his partner Nikita, Jabu was one of the emblematic animals of “A season at the zoo”, documentary series broadcast since 2014 on France 4 (and on the Okoo platform since 2019). Born in 2006 and arrived at La Flèche zoo two years later, he leaves behind a descent of 21 lions and lionesses.
