Jaap’s Inspiring Fitness Journey: Transforming at Over Fifty or Sixty

“I am proud of the agony I have endured,” says Jaap after a photo of his six-pack appears on the screen. “I was already slim, but seven kilos have come off in three months.”

The presenter has taken up the challenge partly out of vanity. “And because I like to exercise. It’s because I like it when you’re in the gym, to have a goal.” Jaap has had an above-average interest in sports and nutrition for several years now. “I try to share that with people.”

With his transformation, Jaap wants to show people who are also over fifty or sixty that you ‘can still look quite fit’. The presenter does not have to be as extreme as what he is doing now. “Small improvements are certainly possible. You don’t have to run a marathon or go to the gym (…) If you take the stairs instead of the elevator, or take the bike instead of the car.”

Jaap thinks he has lived ‘sickly’ for the past three months. This is how he weighed all his food. “My trainer calls it controlled starvation,” he says. The presenter only ate 1600 kilocalories per day to reach his goal. “I was weighing every gram of sugar or rice.”
