TVIn the talk show ‘De Tafel van Gert’, Tuesday’s episode again discussed the use of Ozempic. The drug is intended to help diabetes patients, but has long been used as a weight loss aid. Dutch singer Jaap Reesema (38) also admitted to having used the controversial medicine in the past. “It made me very nauseous.”
“In the past I have taken three injections of Ozempic in a period of three weeks,” said Reesema. “I didn’t like it that much. It made me very nauseous and I really wasn’t hungry at the time.” When the singer heard that there was a shortage of Ozempic in diabetes patients, he immediately decided to stop taking it.
Gert Verhulst, the presenter of the program, admitted last week that he used the medicine in pill form. “I took it for a month. And then I quickly lost a kilo a week.” Unlike Jaap, Gert did not suffer from any side effects. But he also felt guilty about the fact that there is a shortage of the medicine. “It gave me a bad feeling.”
The Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP) has therefore asked doctors and hospital pharmacists to no longer prescribe Ozempic as a treatment for obesity. Demand for the medicine is high, which means there is only limited availability. According to the agency, priority should therefore be given to diabetes patients.
