It is simply not possible for the Prime Minister to declare dissatisfaction with energy prices with one side of his mouth and hold coalition negotiations with the other side of his mouth in order to give hundreds of millions of tax gifts to the wealthiest people in Estonia.
The reform party has grown up like a prehistoric reptile whose small head got into trouble giving orders to its big body and which no longer understands exactly what all its limbs are doing. The fate of the reptiles was sad. The prime minister’s party must learn from this and decide whether to die out or become more active. With a loud roar, the impoverished nation will not be frightened for long by the war threatening Estonia.
“The contract must be respected”
To compare the reason, the Prime Minister’s remarks at the address of Hando Sutter, the head of Eesti Energia, are the last day today. Let me remind you, Sutter became the head of Eesti Energia on December 1, 2014, when Taavi Rõivas was the prime minister. Kaja Kallas was a member of the European Parliament at the time, but the Reform Party certainly talked about both the new head of the state-owned company and the contract signed with him. As a lawyer, today’s Prime Minister understands the rights and obligations of such treaties better than the common people whom he fools with his fake caring attitude about Sutter’s ineptitude.
Now, when the leader of the energy company completes seven and a half years of workmanship, it is simply not decent to blame him for all the world’s affairs, when the owner’s expression of will and control have weakened. Anne Mere, the chairman of the Council of Eesti Energia, deserves praise for not going along with such shadow boxing and reminding the Prime Minister of the basic truth of law “Pacta sunt servanda” (“Agreement must be respected”). I nod that the exchange of information between the Minister of Finance and the Prime Minister looks simply pathetic.
Proud tail, slim body, tiny head
In the last year and a half, high energy prices have stolen a billion from the budgets of Estonian families. It is simply not possible for the Prime Minister to declare dissatisfaction with energy prices with one side of his mouth and hold coalition negotiations with the other side of his mouth in order to give hundreds of millions of tax gifts to the wealthiest people in Estonia.
In the Reform Party, examples of accountability can still be found in history. When the national airline Estonian Air closed its doors in the fall of 2015, Kristen Michal, then a member of the Economic Commission, did not hide in the bushes and look for the culprits, but was on the front line and ensured that Estonian people did not have to pass passports at the airports. Caring for customers and the citizens of the country should be the first priority even now.
Returning to the beginning of the story: the squirrel has a magnificent tail, which many like, but a small body and a tiny head. Let’s look closely and we will see that just wagging the tail will not cover up incompetence for long.
