Jaan Toots: In Narva, we need to focus on finding positive energy and common ground

Narva city council elected Jaan Toots as mayor, for whom 19 of the 31 council members who participated in the session voted. One council member was against, one ballot was invalid and ten council members did not vote.

“I thank the council for the trust and I promise to work hard to ensure smooth cooperation in city management,” said Jaan Toots, who was nominated as a mayoral candidate by the Narva faction. “I consider it very important to restore labor peace, and for that the opposition must also be included in the decision-making process – all the members of the council have received a mandate from the residents of Narva, and thoughts concerning the development of the city must be discussed together.”

According to Jaan Toots, the first big challenge is the preparation of the city’s additional budget, which will be put to the vote at the city council session on October 19. “The political stalemate must be stopped, the residents of Narva are tired of the intrigues concerning the city management. The focus should be on finding positive energy and common ground. Narva has a lot to offer residents and guests – for example, the cultural program of the autumn capital is very diverse. In the long term, opportunities must be found to use the hundreds of millions of euros allocated to Ida-Virumaa within the framework of the European recovery fund as effectively as possible.”

Jaan Toots has been a member of the Center Party since 2019, and he is the deputy chairman of the party and leads the Tartu city region, also being a member of the Tartu City Council.
