CULTURE – Is Michael Jackson alive? No, but you could almost believe it. Lionsgate unveiled this Tuesday, February 13, a photo of Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of the “King of Pop” who plays the main role in the biopic on the singer, and the resemblance is uncanny.
The photo was posted on Instagram. “The first preview of the film Michaelstarring Jaafar Jackson, in theaters April 2025. Photograph by renowned artist Kevin Mazur, who documented Michael’s final rehearsal [pour le documentaire This is It, NDLR], and is now the first to photograph Jaafar in character as Michael,” Lionsgate wrote to accompany the release.

For the photo, the look of Michael Jackson in Man in the Mirror during his tour Dangerous Tour from 1992-1993 has been recreated, specifies Variey. “With Jaafar, every look, every note, every dance move is reminiscent of Michael. He plays Michael like no other actor could have done,” wrote producer Graham King (Bohemian Rhapsody) in a press release obtained by Variety.
Almost perfect lookalike
Last November, a short video had already shown Jaafar Jackson, youngest son of Jermaine Jackson, on the first day of filming singing like his uncle. The hair, the outfit, the gestures, the dance steps: Jaafar imitated his uncle to perfection.

Under the direction of director Antoine Fuqua (known for the trilogy Equalizer), the film will retrace, in the most realistic way possible, all the great moments of his career.
“We will rely on the facts as we know them. The goal is to give viewers a better insight into who Michael Jackson was as an artist and a human being, with his good times and bad sides. They will form their own opinion about him.”explained the director during an interview for the American media Collider on August 31, 2023.
