Indeed! You have read correctly. Metal Slug, the side-scrolling 2D shooter franchise, has announced its return in 2020 and has done it in a big way.
In accordance with GamerantSNK is not only working on a new Metal Slug game to be released this year, but it is now a completely new game called Metal Slug Code: J It has been announced for mobile devices.
What do we know so far about Metal Slug Code: J?
Metal Slug Code: J is being developed by the Tencent subsidiary, TiMi Studios. The Chinese studio has great experience and solid references for games made on mobile devices, as it has released 12 games in recent years.
Their release library includes Arena of Valor, Contra: Return, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: Army Attack, and most recently Call of Duty: Mobile. As exciting as a new game is, it’s not even TiMi’s most anticipated release; because TiMi is also working on Pokemon Unite.
This will not be the first game in the franchise designed for mobile devices. Metal Slug Touch It came out on iOS in 2009, although it was removed from the store just three years later. Since then there have been two Tower Defense-style games: Defense and Attack. Code: J will be the franchise’s first traditional mobile game in a decade.
Between Code: J and the franchise’s unnamed console game, both slated for release in 2020, there’s a lot to look forward to for saga fans. Years have passed since the last great Metal Slug game was released and fans are hungry for more. Hopefully SNK and TiMi meet the expectations of all old school gamers.
