Drake and J. Cole Respond to Kendrick Lamar’s Diss in New Albums

Drake and J. Cole were quick to address Kendrick Lamar’s diss on their latest projects

When Future and Metro Boomin released their highly anticipated collaborative album “We Don’t Trust You” last month, fans immediately noticed Kendrick Lamar’s cutting verse on the track “Like That.” In the verse, Lamar took shots at Drake and J. Cole, expressing his dissatisfaction with being grouped as the “big three” on their previous duet “First Person Shooter” released last year.

While Drake has spoken vaguely about Lamar’s diss during his current tour, J. Cole took a more direct approach. He surprised fans with the sudden release of his latest project “Might Delete Later,” where he directly responded to Lamar’s diss on the concluding track “7 Minute Drill.”

On the song, J. Cole opens by acknowledging Kendrick Lamar’s diss, saying, “I got a phone call, they say that somebody dissing / You want some attention, it come with extensions. He still doing shows but fell off like ‘The Simpsons.’ Your first shit was classic, your last shit was tragic. Your second shit put n—s to sleep but they gassed it. Your third shit was massive and that was your prime. I was trailing right behind and I just now hit mine.”

J. Cole further criticizes Lamar’s sporadic release of his acclaimed “The Heart” series throughout his career. “He’s averaging one ‘Heart’ verse every 30 months. If he wasn’t dissing, we wouldn’t be discussing nothing. Blood don’t make me have to smoke this n—a ’cause I fuck with him. But push come to shove on this mic, I will humble him.”

Fans have eagerly awaited a response from both rappers following Kendrick Lamar’s appearance on “Like That.” Lamar initially took issue with J. Cole’s bars that suggested they were the most successful artists: “Love when they argue the hardest MC. Is it K. Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me? We the big three, like we started a league.”

In response, Lamar fired back with a powerful statement, discrediting the notion of the “big three” by saying, “Yeah, get up with me, fuck sneak dissing. ‘First Person Shooter,’ I hope they came with three switches. Motherfuck the big three, n—a, it’s just big me.”

While tensions between J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar continue to simmer, J. Cole has gifted his fans with 12 tracks on his latest release “Might Delete Later,” featuring appearances from artists such as Ari Lennox, Gucci Mane, Bas, Central Cee, and Cam’Ron. This album comes after his successful sixth solo album, “The Off-Season,” which was released in 2021.
