Countryman J Balvin and his girlfriend, model Valentina Ferrer, met in 2017 for the production of the artist’s music video ‘I’m still missing you’, in which the Argentine was the protagonist and acted as if she were the Antioqueño’s wife, according to the ‘People’ magazine.

In 2018, the couple attended the New York Fashion Week carpet and the Grammy Awards, events where they showed the love they have for each other. Since then they have accompanied each other in every aspect of their careers.
By February 2021, the program ‘El gordo y la flaca’ stated that Valentina Ferrer was expecting a baby, so J Balvin would become a father. This news shocked his fans, since they did not expect news of such magnitude.

While, in June of that same year, the birth of the little one they called Río was confirmed, after the countryman published a message about it on his X account (formerly Twitter) that said: “Dear Río.”

Artists are known for keeping their love life away from the press, so there are not many details about what their life as a couple is like. Likewise, they are very careful with their little son, since neither J Balvin nor Valentina Ferrer had revealed the child’s face.

The singer had expressed in 2021, through his Instagram account, that they had not let their fans see their son because they wanted their descendant to be the one to make the decision to show themselves to the public.
However, on January 2, 2024, J Balvin published a reel of photos in which he welcomed the new year. In one of those photographs, the paisa was at a family dinner, in which part of Rio’s face could be seen.
The child manages to cover part of his face with the help of his hands, but a large part of it can still be seen. Given this, several Internet users wished the artist and his family the best.
The countryman explained to the American program ‘The Ellen Show’ what the origin of his descendant’s name is. Balvin stated that they chose Rio because it is related to nature: “Like ‘River’, because I want it to flow.”
