Roberto Izurieta has resigned from the Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic to join the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). This resignation is part of the changes in the cabinet led by the president Daniel Noboa.
Izurieta will be replaced by Irene Vélez Froment, which was already part of the Communication Secretariat during the government of Guillermo Lasso. Vélez has a master’s degree in Political Action, Institutional Strengthening and Citizen Participation in the Rule of Law from the Francisco de Vitoria University and a degree in Political Science and International Relations from the Casa Grandel University.
Vèlez is currently a professor at the Espíritu Santo University of Specialties, in Guayaquil, and an analyst for the newspaper Expreso.
Izurieta, who He was Ecuador’s ambassador to Chile, appointed by President Guillermo Lassoassumed his position in November 2023 after the resignation of Iván Carmigniani, a close advisor to the president, before even assuming the government.
As of May 20, 2024, Izurieta will take over as Alternate Executive Director for Chile and Ecuador at the IDB, as provided by President Noboa.
The Government highlighted Izurieta’s diplomatic and communication experience as a valuable contribution to promoting economic and regional development. Izurieta has a master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Political Science, with a career that includes advising on political campaigns in Latin America and roles at George Washington University in the United States.
