We supported the “non-Liberal Democratic Party” candidates who won the mayoral elections in Tachikawa City, Tokyo, and Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture, and in the Tokyo Koto Ward Mayoral Election (announced on December 3rd, votes counted on December 10th) following the resignation of former Ward Mayor Yayoi Kimura. Former Mayor of Akashi City, Fusho Izumi, gives an interview to this newspaper

◆What to do next with “national politics itself”

On the 30th, Izumi posted on X (formerly Twitter) titled, “About my stance on the “Koto Ward mayoral election.” “I have received requests from several camps to support the election, but I have declined all of them. Personally, I believe that my victory in the Tokorozawa mayoral election is the end of the story, and I have declined all subsequent requests. “There is,” he wrote.

In addition, in the Kyoto mayoral election due to expire in February next year, he announced, “I have already received requests for support from three camps, and I am also receiving direct contact from them one after another, but my stance remains the same, refusing all requests.” . He asserted, “I think the next step is to decide what to do about national politics itself.”

Izumi served as the mayor of Akashi for 12 years until retiring this spring due to the abusive language issue. He doubled the city’s childcare-related budget and implemented “five free programs,” including medical expenses for children up to age 18, childcare fees for second and subsequent children, and school lunch fees for junior high school students. The city has seen its 10th consecutive year of population growth.

The number of followers on X (formerly Twitter) is over 500,000, and it is well known nationwide.

In addition to the Tachikawa and Tokorozawa mayoral elections, support candidates were also elected in the Hyogo Prefecture Mita mayoral election in July and the Iwate Prefecture gubernatorial election in September.

In an interview with this newspaper this month, Izumi criticized the Kishida administration, saying that “people’s lives are no longer able to sustain themselves” due to high prices and other factors. He has announced that he is beginning to formulate a plan to seize power in order to leverage this momentum from the local elections into the next House of Representatives election and form a “Cabinet for People’s Relief” that will shift from increasing the burden on the people to politics that will help the people.
