Izagirre wins next Vuelta mountain finish – Carapaz now in red

Defending champion Primoz Roglic has lost the red jersey of the overall leader at the Vuelta for professional cyclists. The 30-year-old Slovene lost his lead on the difficult path to Aramón Formigal on the 6th stage and is now only fourth overall.

The red jersey was taken over by the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz, who is now 30 seconds ahead of Roglic. In second and third place after the tough 146.4 kilometers are Brit Hugh Carthy (18 seconds behind) and Irishman Daniel Martin (20 seconds).

Local hero Ion Izagirre won the day under the toughest conditions in the rain. Before the sprinters around Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe) have further chances of winning the day from Tuesday, the rest day awaits on Monday. The Vuelta will last two more weeks, the grand finale is planned for November 8th in Madrid.
