In Côte d’Ivoire, Charles Blé Goudé’s sentence fell and he was indeed convicted of a war crime and sentenced to a long prison term in absentia.
While he is in The Hague to answer for war crimes and crimes against humanity, accusations of which he has been cleared by the ICC, Charles Blé Goudé still faces justice in his country.
After the hearing on 30 December ruling on the case of crime against prisoners of war, a crime which the President of the Cojep, Charles Blé Goudé, is accused of, the judge ruled and found the latter guilty of the acts alleged against him. He sentenced the former minister to 20 years in prison, 10 years of deprivation of civil rights and a 200 million fine to be paid to the families of the victims. This new conviction comes after Guillaume Soro, former President of the Ivorian national assembly, and probable opponent of Ouattara, also saw the issue of an arrest warrant.
