Abidjan, Nov 29, 2021 (AIP) – Foot d’Or Legend, a structure that works to promote the former glory of Ivorian football, set sail for France to celebrate, on Sunday November 28, 2021, the former international Léopold Sacred Abiali, retained in the 11 type of immortals of football at the national level.
The former defender of the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire and of Africa Sports of Abidjan received, in Caen, from the designer of this project of distinction, Claude Franck About, his diploma of merit which, at the same time, made invitation to the official ceremony of consecration, in the days to come, in Abidjan.
Visibly happy, Léopold Sacré Abiali expressed his pride in seeing his services rendered to the nation in football recognized and rewarded by this status of “immortal” player. A job that has earned its seriousness during his career and invites the young generation to make this virtue their own.
“I ask the young people who today have these opportunities that we did not have, to put seriousness in their work because it is with seriousness that we can move forward. This is how they will earn a good living, ”he advised.
Leopold Sacré Abiali’s football career was crowned with several trophies of champion of the Ivory Coast with Africa Sports of Abidjan, two cups of the Union of West African Federations (UFOA), a CAF cup and a bronze medal at the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in 1986, in Egypt. He has lived in France for 33 years, in the city of Caen.
On September 5, a scientific committee made up of eminent journalists from the national sports press unveiled the typical team of the best footballers of all time in Côte d’Ivoire, making the winners of the “Immortals”. This is why Foot d’Or Legend, the organizing structure, strives to visit each of them to present their diplomas and invite them to the consecration ceremony in December.
Sacré Abiali becomes the 6th “immortal” to receive his Foot d’Or Legend scroll after the current captain of the Elephants, Serge Aurier, Laurent Pokou and Kolo Touré, Abdoulaye Traoré aka Ben Badi and Youssouf Fofana. The next glories to visit are Alain Gouaméné, Yaya Touré, Moh Emmanuel, Didier Drogba and Jean-Baptiste Akran Akassou.
