Yesterday, Ivonne Nóchez added a silver medal to her record in the Old Continent by finishing second in the dobbin sprint event at the European Cup Inline Speedskating 2024, which takes place in Geisingen, Germany.
The Salvadoran skater stopped the clock at 14.881 seconds, which was good for her to win the silver medal and relegate Fran Vanhoutte, from Belgium, to third place, who completed the test with 14.925 seconds.
“It is a thrill to see Ivonne win at this level, the category is very tough and the Colombians, as always, are among the best and there are also very good Europeans. Obtaining this money makes us very happy because the effort and time that she has put into the training base in Colombia has not been in vain,” said Lérida Colato de Echegoyén, manager of the Salvadoran Skating Federation (Fesap).
The gold medal went to Colombian María Timns with a time of 14.747 in a close competition between the 10 finalists.
In 2022, Ivonne won the gold medal in the 300 meter time trial, junior category, at the Gross Gerau European Cup and in her last year as a junior skater.
The greatest figure of Salvadoran skating also competed in the final of the 10,000 meter points, which was a plus for Nóchez since his specialty is speed tests.
In this long-distance competition, Ivonne did not finish the course since the coach’s objective was only to have a parameter of how the athlete is in terms of resistance, according to Fesap.
Ivonne Nóchez also has a good projection of another medal, after qualifying for the semifinals in the 500 meters + distance event, a phase in which she will have as rivals the Italian Asja Varani, the Colombian Gabriela Rueda and the Spanish Nerea Langa.
