Iveta Bartošová: Controversies and inaccuracies in the second season of the series

The second series begins with the work I can go on. Right at the beginning of the program, the creators try to correct the senseless time jump they made at the end of the third part of the first series, when after the death of Petr Sepeši in 1985, we move 3 years later. This jump influenced the viewer that Iveta closed herself in her native Moravia for three years and took revenge on singing. Here, however, it is revealed in the first few scenes. We watch as Iveta wins one award after another. The first of these is the Golden Nightingale for 1986, followed by 1990 and 1991.

Although it is a perfect correction of the separated story from the end of the first season, it can give a rather confusing view to those who do not know the details of Iveta’s life. We are returning to the time we have already ended.

At the beginning of the program, a big place is devoted to one of Iveta’s appearances on TV screens with her new partner Ladislav Štaidl. The scene is very strange and takes up several minutes of this episode’s footage. At the same time, this is a completely unnecessary window into Iveta’s life, which just poisons the viewer.

Iveta shines with Ladislav Štaidl in public, but in private she experiences daily pain. Štaidl is married and refuses to divorce. The series thus shows the audience that this period in the early 1990s is the time when Iveta first reaches for sedatives to get rid of depressive states.

But the first episode of the second season also shows us the dark side of fame. Iveta begins to be chased by an unknown man, who leaves messages on the door of her apartment that leave one cold. He is literally obsessed with Iveta and wants to take her even against her will. But there is no evidence or records of such persecution, so it can only be a fabrication of the creators of the series.

At the press conference for Iveta Bartošová’s new album Nature, published in 1991, Iveta is asked in the series how long after Petr Sepeši’s death she returned to Prague to record new songs. The question aims to beat Iveta and put her in a tight spot. It is reported that she was back in Prague a week after Sepeši’s tragic accident. If someone had really dealt with this issue in the past, they would have dealt with it right after the event. The series thus again misleads the audience by trying to make them notice that even 6 years after Sepeši’s death, someone was solving this question. In response to the question, Iveta behaves arrogantly and selfishly towards the journalist, which was a completely unusual behavior for Iveta at the time, so it can be considered a -again as an invention of the creators.

The next part of the program also shows us a very difficult time in Iveta’s life, when the singer was encouraged by her partner and had an abortion. The character of Iveta’s driver, who behaves rudely and even rudely towards her, seems completely pointless.

At the end of the episode, Iveta’s big dream comes true. He will perform a duet with Karl Gott in front of a sold out Lucerna. After all, Iveta wanted that as a child. But the problem is that it is again largely inaccurate and distorted. The real Iveta really wanted a song by Karl Gott. But this dream came true for her much earlier. The last scene, in which Iveta is brought on stage to Karl Gott wrapped as a gift, took place, of course, but it already happened in 1986, ie more than five years earlier.

In the same way, we again see the weak and uncertain singing performance of the producer Iveta Anna Fialová, who cannot match the famous pop princess with her vocal abilities. For someone who didn’t know Iveta, it might seem unbelievable that someone with such a voice was able to break through in Czechoslovakia at the time. Only the acting and singing performance of Ondřej Ruml as Karel Gott can be evaluated positively.

The first episode of the second season of Iveta only confirmed that this is a series based on the life of the famous singer. However, one cannot trust its content, because it differs from reality in many places.
