The ‘little nightingale’ with the golden voice is now 81 years old. At 6, Joselito touched the sky with his fingers and became a premature actor and singer who returned to his millionaire family. In Y ahora Sonsoles, we welcome him to remember his years of light and shadows.
He was the youngest of seven siblings and they lived in absolute poverty. The post-war period hit his family hard, but the child prodigy had a very clear objective: he had to get them out of there with his voice. “Hunger drove me,” he said in the program.
Although he started singing in taverns in exchange for a plate of food, he soon became successful not only in Spain, but also in some 14 countries, even conquering the United States. “He came triumphant from America,” he said.
His career was brilliant during the first years, where he lived with great role models such as Marisol, who was another child prodigy at the time. “I was very much in love with Pepa when we were children,” he confessed on set, recalling the letters they wrote to each other.
However, the success and brilliance soon ended. His manager began to swindle him out of money and the young man disappeared from the public sphere and took the path of drugs and self-destruction. He even spent time in prison.
Today Joselito is still like the ‘little nightingale’, despite having distanced himself from that era. More than sixty years after his great success, he still maintains the passion of that time.
