“Ivars Zviedris is a director, cameraman and producer of Latvian documentary cinema, whose research center has always been human, allowing to look at the lives of ordinary people or those whose everyday lives are hidden from the eyes of others or overlooked, but still present. Ivars Zviedris not only notices , but also to take a closer look.

There are nine films in the selection. The director’s latest feature film “The Wearer” follows the course of the native Pepiņš, who is closely connected with illegal immigration in Latvia. The film received last year “The Great Kristapu” as the best feature film and the award for best cinematography in a documentary.

“Sawers” tells the story of Roman, who in spite of everything tries to be a successful logging entrepreneur, while in the film “Tide” the daily rhythm of Valdis and his snails in Ireland depends on the tide – when the sea recedes, snails can be picked.

Short-form works on the Latvian border include the “Headquarters Ipiķi”, which documents children in the most populated point of Latvia near the Estonian border. In the movie “Erik, come!” follows the course of the day of the former sailor Erik. He lives in a tin hut without electricity at the Latvian-Estonian border. “Mazpilsēta” allows you to learn more about the farthest northern city of Latvia and also the director’s own hometown – Rūjiena.

In the selection about Riga in the film “Residents”, viewers are introduced to Laura and Kārlis, who want to work in their medical profession, although they are aware that McDonald’s could earn more. A short story about Riga, in which both poets reciting poetry and tram drivers meet, can be seen in the film “Riga”. “EU” is a collaboration of 12 directors, together creating a film about the mood of the people and the referendum on September 20, 2003, in which people had the opportunity to vote for or against joining the European Union.
