The debut collection of the poet Ivars Šteinbergs “Strops” has started its way to the readers, the representatives of the publishing house “Neputns” informed.
At one point I realized that the book should be called “Hive”. These poems are written at different stages of life, so many speak in their own, different voices, and when they are put together, they form a hive-like drone in my mind. It is such a warm polyphony, in some places it is loud, in other places – sharp. “Hive” also means work for me – purposeful efforts and a sweet harvest – but, of course, it is a work that is not possible without stings, “said the author of the collection.
Ivars Šteinbergs has been working on his debut collection for a long time – the first poetry publications appeared already in 2012, earning the interest and recognition of his contemporaries, the publishing house pointed out.
Artis Ostups, the editor of the collection, a poet and a literary scholar, emphasized:
The author has a talent as a stylist: some texts are created in the manner of other authors, as well as cleverly played academic discourse.
The intonation of Steinberg’s poems fluctuates between ironic and serious; in terms of content, the author focuses mainly on the themes of life and death and everyday strangeness. He has surrendered a collection that strongly complements the onslaught of young Latvian poets. ”
The book was designed by Armands Zelčs.
