Ivan Takov: The DB report on renaming the 36th SU “Maxim Gorky” is opportunistic and destructive – 2024-04-03 11:13:07

/ world today news/ The chairman of the BSP – Sofia and municipal councilors from the group of socialists met with the director of the school and representatives of the parent board, who do not wish to change the name

Not a small part of the reports that the municipal councilors from Democratic Bulgaria submit to the SOS are destructive. An example of this is that of Veselin Kalanovski for renaming the 36th SU “Maxim Gorky” in the “Krasno Selo” area. The comment was made by the chairman of the BSP – Sofia and the group of socialists in SOS, Ivan Takov, after a meeting with the director of the school Svetla Noteva, teachers and representatives of the parent board. The meeting was also attended by the deputy chairperson of the SOS from the BSP Milka Hristova, the member of the Commission for Education, Culture, Science and Cultural Diversity Ivan Videlov, as well as the councilors from the group of socialists Ivan Peshev, Nikolay Nikolov – chairman of the RS of the BSP “Krasno selo ” and Nikolay Velchev.

“At the meeting, we found out that no one from Democratic Bulgaria, not even the submitter of the name change report, requested a meeting with the principal, with the teaching staff of the school and with parents, commented Ivan Takov. – If I have to qualify such behavior, I will be very extreme. We found out from the director, Svetla Noteva, that the school yard needs asphalting, and the roof needs repair. But these problems are obviously not important for colleagues from Democratic Bulgaria. For them, the first concern is changing the name of the school”.

Ivan Takov recalled that Maxim Gorky is an indisputable person of world fame, five times nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature. “The assessment of him was given by his contemporaries, who had immediate impressions, he added. – He is a luminary in world literature. It is madness to be opposed to a Bulgarian general, who is also an undisputed name in our military affairs. However, I do not think that it is appropriate for a general education school to bear the name of a general. Not to mention that after the Liberation of Bulgaria there is a tradition for schools, without exception, to bear the names of educators”.

Milka Hristova addressed the capital mayor Yordanka Fandakova directly with a question. “Here we are talking about a Russian writer, and in this connection it is extremely important for me whether she shares the arguments of Veselin Kalanovsky regarding the personality and work of the writer Maxim Gorky, said Hristova. – According to Mayor Fandakova, whether his name as a patron of the school interferes with the upbringing of the children? Her answer is very important to me. I rely on an objective assessment, since she is a Russian philologist. Does Mayor Fandakova think that Maxim Gorky is a “servant of the satrap Stalin”?”.

Ivan Videlov congratulated the director of the school and the representatives of the parent board for the clear position they have regarding the name change. “I am impressed by the way everyone is motivated to fight for the preservation of the name Maxim Gorky, he commented. – We will categorically support them and oppose the renaming. In this regard, it is very important for me to hear the opinion to Mayor Fandakova on the issue, as she is a former teacher of the Russian language”.
