In football there are stories of gratitude that leave many fans perplexed. This is the case of Ivan Perisic, one of the best Croatian footballers of all time, who this week agreed to sign him with Hajduk Split from his native country.
The 34-year-old midfielder has been a fan of the Croatian club since he was little, where he even played in its youth categories and played friendlies with the first team, but never in official matches because he left the country at a very young age. Now, he will finally be able to defend his shirt in the national league for a price that has left many in disbelief.
Perisic arrives from Tottenham Hotspur, where he has played since 2022. The signing is on loan to conclude the last six months of his contract, however, the salary agreed upon by the Balkan star is only one euro per month.
This information was confirmed by Lukša Jakobušić, president of Hajduk Split, who pointed out that this deal is a gesture on the part of the footballer so as not to affect the club’s finances, since he usually earns a million-dollar salary, like the one he received with the Spurs or in his time with Inter Milan.
Perisic suffered a serious knee injury in the middle of last year that kept him out of action with the London team in the last semester, so at this moment he has not yet recovered, but he hopes to be back on the playing field soon.
What does Perisic gain by signing with Hajduk Split?
A very important point that also influenced the agreement between both parties is that when he is recovered, Perisic will be able to have many playing minutes, which he would hardly be able to have at Tottenham, and that will be key to being considered by the Croatian National Team for the Euro. 2024.
