Cochabamba, September 16, 2023 (ATB Digital).- Iván Hochman (Buenos Aires, 1994) is an Argentine actor, film director, playwright, writer and teacher. He has recently been known for playing the famous Argentine rocker Fito Páez in the series Love After Love (2023), available on Netflix, and for his career as a theater actor.
Now, Hochman, together with director Tomás Masariche (Buenos Aires, 1994), decides to adapt the play Yo Also My Name is Hokusai, by the Mexican playwright José Emilio Hernández, to bring it to the stage in a one-man style.
The staging comes from Buenos Aires to show its uniqueness of breaking conventional theatrical parameters. Iván Hochman, in an exclusive interview for RAMONA, said that this theatrical performance exposes the very nature of the work and the theatrical task, which at the same time is full of doubts. “In this work everything is doubted. Above all, I ask myself at every moment of the work: What are we doing here? “Do we do the scene or do we laugh at the scene?” Hochman said.
According to the official synopsis of the work, it is a sensitive and hilarious comedy that tells the story of a nameless and talentless writer whose girlfriend leaves him to go save the world. Sunk in deep sadness, the writer decides to use his prose to win her back, without any success. Finally, his work is never finished being written and what we see becomes a parody of himself.
The experience of watching My Name Too is Hokusai is described by the actor as fun. “People have a good time and have a lot of fun. The other day something very nice happened: we did a presentation in Uruguay, an author and director from there went to see us and when she finished she told us that she saw how people came out transformed. That’s one of the nicest things they said to me. “It is quite an experience, it is not just a play,” said the performer.
My Also My Name is Hokusai will be presented in the city of La Paz on September 14 at the NUNA Espacio Arte theater (Calle 21 de Calacoto#8509) and on September 16 in Cochabamba at the Eduardo Laredo school theater (Avenida Ramón Rivero # 3050) at 20:00.
