/ world today news/ Ivan Garelov, the former media adviser of the caretaker government, said that he did not expect to be fired at all. Garelov said that he had already received the dismissal order.
“Officially, I am fired because of my participation in Nova TV, in which I defended Elena Yoncheva. Because I defended her, I violated the cabinet’s neutrality and because I affected the interest of former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. That’s what he told me officially Professor Gerdzhikov. He received an SMS or a call from Borisov himself, consulted with the president and communicated his decision to me,” said Ivan Garelov.
The journalist was asked to leave on his own, but he refused because he wanted to know the official motives.
“I am surprised because I was as careful as possible in my speech today during my participation, so as not to affect the government, so as not to affect Borisov, to be as neutral as possible. I made the express stipulation that I am not speaking on behalf of the government, but on my own behalf. And for that I am surprised that it was not reported. However, I do not regret what I said, because I think that my duty as a journalist is more important than as a media adviser.”
Garelov refused to comment on the words of the producer Alexander Metodiev, according to whom Elena Yoncheva worked in one film and several shows in 1994-95. For them, according to Metodiev, Yoncheva received state money, but indirectly.
“I don’t know such a person. Plus, he himself said that he knows nothing about the current accusation that the state paid over BGN 2 million for her reporting. Metodiev heard somewhere else, on another occasion, that she was receiving state money. At one time, Yoncheva was on salary at BNT. The question is whether she received state money, isn’t it?” concluded Garelov.
