The newspaper Repubblica pays special attention to workplace deaths in Italy. In a series of materials, the tragic fate of each victim is told, preventing them from becoming part of trivial statistics. One of these tragic fates belongs to the Bulgarian Ivan.
The incident with Ivan is another case of death “from work”, writes the Italian media. Ivan Hristozov, 38, died in a tragic accident at his workplace in Cagliari, on the island of Sardinia, on December 5.
The material says that an average of three workers a day do not return home, and therefore “dying at work” must be constantly reminded of institutions and politicians until this “crime against the world” ends. Ivan Hristozov, 38, from Plovdiv, Bulgaria, rests while working in Cagliari, pinned by the cab of his articulated lorry, which was undergoing repairs at the workshop.
Ivan, together with his older brother Svetoslav, 42 years old, had an import-export company and used the truck to transport the cars bought in Cagliari and the surrounding area to Bulgaria. He has been doing this work since he lived in Italy with his family – his wife Milena and his sons Angel and Christian.
Many of the family’s Italian friends sent messages to express their condolences but also their respect for Ivan, “whom they will remember with great affection and with gratitude to life for having met him and for having worked with him,” as it says Antonio.
Alessandro remembers how he once met Ivan and Svetlio, who were “more than brothers”. “Nice people don’t go away, they stay forever,” he added. The bar staff next to Ivan’s workshop also wrote that they will always remember him as a polite and nice boy.
“Ivan, we will always remember you as a sweet and kind person,” Rita wrote. Francesco claims that he is pained by the loss of Ivan and that he was for him like “the brother he never had”.
Vanessa also thanked Ivan for the help he provided to her loved ones. “Thank you for your Bulgarian jokes and advice,” she wrote. Antonello will remember him “as smiling and with a sense of humor, very hardworking”.
And the greeting from his Milena: “I will find you wherever you are, as you found me many years ago”. Because no one should be a foreigner on this earth. I’ll never forget when he told him “so go back to your job selling cars in a suit”.
“Hello Ivan, have a nice trip – says Antonello – I want to remember you always smiling and joking, a great worker”.
And the greeting from his Milena: “I will find you wherever you are, as you found me many years ago”, because no one should be a foreigner on this earth.
