Ius scholae, Forza Italia goes straight ahead: ‘Law proposal by September’

Forza Italia is pushing ahead with Ius scholae, the recognition of citizenship to foreign minors who have completed a course of study in the national territory. A topic that has dominated the spotlight this summer and divided the centre-right. The Forza Italia secretary Antonio Tajani has sent the input to the group leaders of the Chamber and Senate to begin working on a comprehensive proposal that should be completed by the end of the month, as sources announced to Ansa.

The proposal of the Azzurri, in its premises, would aim to make it possible to request Italian citizenship after a 10-year course of study with profit that attests, among other things, knowledge of the Italian language and history. This criterion would replace that of 18 years of age, to “abolish automatic processes in the granting of citizenship”. And it is precisely with this argument that Tajani’s party would intend to convince its allies.

The proposal will in fact be presented to the rest of the majority for an internal coalition discussion. Asked about the statements of some members of FdI and Lega according to whom the ius scholae was “a summer issue”, the same sources responded: “It is not, it is an issue that we want to address”.

He doesn’t think so Thomas Fotileader of the FdI group in the Chamber who says to Skytg24: “Is a reflection on Ius scholae necessary? In reality there is a Parliament that has reflected at length on this issue. The problem is not to discuss, it is what is being discussed, because up until now the title of the law has been discussed, not the norm. I have read the proposals presented by the opposition and I can assure you that there is not one that goes in the same direction as the other. It is not a government priority, it is not a topic that has been on the agenda up until now, it is a summer issue”.

From the opposition, the leader of Action Charles Calenda he reports on X that “the text of our proposal” to amend the ius scholae “is public, you can find it on our website and it will be deposited on September 9th”. And he explains that he is “trying very hard” but is unable to understand “Tajani and Schlein’s position on the ius scholae”.
