Organizing the closet often drives people to despair. Twice a year, as recommended, there is a moving up and down and considering what to keep and what to discard. Although it is advised: you bought a new garment – throw away the old one, but do we do that? After all, it is not easy to decide which one to give up. The one you don’t fit anymore? But maybe next season you will lose weight. Or the one whose color is out of fashion this year, or maybe the one you haven’t even remembered for two seasons? But it was bought expensively for an important occasion! Or maybe take the entire contents of the closet to a textile container and buy new clothes that match this year’s trends?
Stylist Aušra KLIMAVIČĖ advises the readers of “Suvalkietis” what to do in order to organize the wardrobe smoothly.
Plan your closet revision in your mind
Organizing the closet is a logical, not an impulsive process that requires moral preparation. And although it is extremely difficult to say goodbye to those clothes that once fit and liked, but today we don’t wear them anymore for one reason or another, we still have to do it and let fresh air into the closets. And in order for new clothes to come, we have to make room for them, because it was its time to come into the closet, and its time to leave.
Let’s first organize the revision of the wardrobe in our minds, after all, we show ourselves as we are today through our style. Let’s close our eyes and give up the clothes we haven’t worn for a long time without regret.
Let’s not live in the past
Let’s not accumulate so much that the closet door doesn’t close. First of all, let’s get rid of the parasites of things that take up space in the closet and suck energy with some sentimental memories.
After that, you need to remove viruses as soon as possible – that’s what I call repetitive clothes of the same model or silhouette, similar color, which make the wardrobe look monotonously boring.
The third type of clothing is clinging, which does not bring us any happiness. A shiver of joy should run through the body after taking the clothes in our hands, we should glow with happiness while wearing them. If it is not, let’s refuse, without thinking about how much the clothes cost, or maybe it was an emotional purchase.
Every woman’s happiness is to dress up, to shine, and after clearing out the closet, there will be room for that glow and joy. Let’s decorate everywhere, including at home! Instead of ordinary everyday clothes, let’s dress up in those clothes that are no longer suitable for going to work – the mood will be quite unusual.
What to keep?
Let’s reinvent our personal style by cleaning out our closets. Let’s listen to our intuition, what only we want, and choose the colors, length of clothes, neckline shape, and pattern that suit us, and let’s refuse the ones that don’t fit and don’t even buy them in the future.
Keeping only those that fit, let’s hang them on the same hangers so that our closet looks visually beautiful. Let’s hang only one piece of clothing on one hanger so that it “breathes” and we can see what we have. For pants, skirts, let’s use multi-pin hangers. So that the sweaters do not lose their shape, I recommend not hanging them, but folding them nicely. I also fold jeans.
Let’s keep the shoes so that we can see what we have. Let’s put the ones we don’t wear in transparent boxes. Let’s put the jewelry in separate boxes.
The simpler the clothes, the easier it is to combine
After doing the revision and choosing what fits and likes, let’s choose all the combinations and take pictures. After analyzing what is missing to create new combinations, let’s make a shopping list, where we describe everything in detail: silhouette, color, sleeve length, neckline, etc. This way we will spend less time in stores and not buy what we don’t need.
Let’s pay attention to the ratio of clothes – the lower parts should be three times less than the upper ones. Let’s say if we have 10 pants or skirts, let’s have about 30 outerwear with them: blouses, sweaters, jackets. This way we will create many more diverse combinations.
The more clothes of different and complicated cuts, the more chaos there is in the wardrobe, so I would recommend having simple, straight silhouettes, without additional patterns and details – these will be easier to match with each other. Better to have more accessories. The basis of the wardrobe must be 70 percent. simple silhouette clothes. Combine them with clothes of more interesting, complex silhouettes – about 25% of them should be. And only 5 percent. enough ultra-style clothes – the news of the season. You don’t really need a lot of them, because usually new trends last 1-2 years.
The pity should not be the clothes, but yourself
In order to always have something to wear, it does not mean buying impulsively, what we saw beautiful at the time or wanted unplanned. The essential rule is that a person should feel good and comfortable in that garment. However, if the garment has survived, let’s thank it, say goodbye and let it go: sell it, give it away, take it to a textile container. It’s no secret that the hardest thing is to give up the clothes that we once felt good in, but we haven’t worn them in a while. The thought “maybe someday I will lose weight” keeps stopping me. Of course, this can be a stimulus to achieve the former result. But as a rule, when you lose weight, you already want new clothes.
