Work can be uploaded via the online platform between Friday, November 1, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. and Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. Professional photographers as well as cartoonists who have published their works in the political daily, weekly and Sunday press can take part. As part of a celebratory awards ceremony in January 2025, photographs and caricatures that reflect the political year 2024 both succinctly and in excellent quality will be presented. It’s worth taking part! The flashback is organized jointly by the Rhineland-Palatinate state representation and the Federal Association of Digital Publishers and Newspaper Publishers (BDZV). The caricature prize is advertised via the BDZV. The 1st prize “Best Photo”, worth 7,000 euros, is donated by the Federal Representative for Europe and the Media, State Secretary Heike Raab. In addition, the “Best Series” prize, sponsored by Leica Camera Deutschland GmbH, and the “Sharp Seeing” prize, sponsored by the Rhineland-Palatinate Future Initiative, are awarded in the field of photography. The awarding of an audience award for “The Most Popular Photo” and “The Most Popular Caricature” is the highlight of the flashback finissage in February 2025. In the caricature category, the BDZV awards the 1st prize “Best Caricature”, endowed with 5,000 euros, the 2nd . Prize worth 2,000 euros and the 3rd prize worth 1,000 euros.
“For over 40 years, Flashback has impressively documented current political events and honors the professional achievements of photographers and caricaturists. Their sharp eye and their technical perfection are an essential contribution to freedom of the press,” said State Secretary and jury chairwoman Heike Raab on the occasion of the start of the Flashback competition this year.
