The foretelling has been given a hard time by the critics, but new technology is in place and therefore the game is interesting for other reasons.
You will be impressed
We got the reviewer code late, so it will take us a few days after launch to determine if it’s worth your time.
The game uses as the very first “DirectStorage”, which promises super-fast loading on NVMes with 5500Mb/s read speed and better.
The developers promise 1 to 2 seconds loading time compared to 10 seconds on an SSD.
“If you blink, you don’t see it”
Now that the game is also out on PC, we can finally confirm or deny whether the very big promises were made public: a maximum of a couple of seconds loading a large game. It sounds too good to be true, but it is.
Unfortunately, the game doesn’t load nearly as quickly on Playstation 5 (which we’re testing on), but on PC it’s incredible.
In several tests, the average is under two seconds (and in some of them under one second), and as you can see in the final seconds in the clip below, the game is ready almost as soon as you press “continue.”
Unfortunately, not all NVMes do equally well, including the WD_BLACK SN850 Gen4, but that may also be due to the setup of the testers at Wccftech, as on paper it should be more than fast enough.
