Zelenskyj: – It is time for serious peace talks
It is time for the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine to start in earnest, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj in a video speech.
– I would like everyone to listen – especially in Moscow. The time has come for a meeting. It’s time to talk. It is time to restore territorial integrity and justice for Ukraine, Zelensky said.
The call for meaningful peace talks “without delay” with Russia came in a video speech on Saturday night, reports among others the news agency Reuters and BBC.
So far, peace talks have taken place at a lower level between Russian and Ukrainian delegations.
“This is Russia’s only chance to reduce the damage caused by its own mistakes,” Zelensky said, adding a warning:
Otherwise, Russia’s losses will be so great that it will take several generations to rebuild the country.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, for his part, accuses Ukraine of coaching the peace talks. In a telephone conversation with German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz, Putin said that Ukraine is making unrealistic proposals in the peace talks. (NTB)
