It’s snowing in Brennero and in large areas of Alto Adige: inconveniences in Val Pusteria

(ANSA) – BOLZANO, NOV 21 – With the predicted disturbance the snow also arrived. It is currently snowing in Brenner and in large areas of South Tyrol. The Road Traffic Center of the Province of Bolzano reports snow on the Brenner motorway between the state border and Bressanone. In the evening the flakes will also be able to descend in Bolzano and in the Adige valley. Motorists are advised to pay attention to the partially snow-covered and slippery road surface and to drive with the utmost caution and only with winter equipment. Passo Stelvio, Passo Rombo and Passo Stalle are closed in winter.

The arrival of snow on the valley floor in Alto Adige found numerous motorists unprepared. The Val Pusteria road is currently blocked near the Suore pass. Problems are also reported in Rio Pusteria, and also on the provincial road 40 between Vandoies and Issengo. The firefighters are responding to accidents and vehicles blocked because they do not have winter equipment.

It’s snowing in Brennero and in large areas of Alto Adige: inconveniences in Val Pusteria

**To what extent⁣ did the clash of colder ⁣air masses from the Atlantic and warm, moist ‌air over the Alps contribute to ⁢the ‌severity of the⁢ snowfall in South Tyrol?**

## Interview: Snowfall Causes Chaos in South Tyrol

**Host:** Welcome⁢ back⁢ to World Today News. This week we’re discussing the sudden snowfall in South Tyrol and the chaos it⁣ has ‌caused on the⁤ roads.

With me today are two experts. **Dr. Bianca Moretti**, ⁣a respected meteorologist ⁢from the‍ University of Trento, and **Marco Ferrari**, a spokesperson for the South Tyrol Road ⁢Traffic‍ Center.

Welcome both ⁤of you.

**Dr. Moretti:** Thank you for having me.

**Marco Ferrari:** It’s a‌ pleasure to be here.

**Host:** Let’s dive right into the ⁣situation. Dr. Moretti, can you tell us more about the weather system responsible for this unexpected snowfall?

**Dr. Moretti:** This recent snowfall is directly ⁣attributed to a⁣ disturbance coming from the Atlantic. It brought colder air masses south, encountering warm, moist air over the Alps. This clash ⁢of⁣ air masses ⁢resulted in heavy snowfall at relatively low altitudes, especially in mountainous areas like ‌South Tyrol.

**Host:** ‍So, this isn’t entirely uncommon for this time ⁣of year but ‍perhaps ⁤a bit ‍more intense ⁤than expected?

**Dr. Moretti:** ⁣Exactly.⁣ While snowfall is typical for South Tyrol in November, the intensity and early arrival caught many off guard.

**Host:**‌ Marco, let’s switch⁣ gears to the ‍practical implications of this snowfall. Can you describe the situation on the roads?

**Marco ⁢Ferrari:** We ⁤have seen significant disruptions across the region. The Brenner Motorway has been affected, with ⁤snow falling between the state border and Bressanone. We also have ⁣reports of heavy snowfall in the Adige Valley, and several mountain passes are closed for the ⁣winter season, including Stelvio, Rombo, and Stalle.

**Host:**‌ We’ve seen images⁤ online of vehicles ⁣struggling⁣ on valley roads.

**Marco Ferrari:** Unfortunately, yes. Many motorists were unprepared for the sudden snowfall and lacked winter equipment. This has led to several accidents and traffic⁢ jams, especially in areas like the Val Pusteria.

**Host:** This highlights the⁣ crucial role of preparation for winter driving conditions. Dr. Moretti, what are⁢ some key⁣ factors that people often overlook when it comes to winter weather ⁤preparedness?

**Dr. ⁢Moretti:** Aside from having ‍appropriate winter tires⁤ and chains, it’s important to check weather forecasts regularly, plan journeys carefully, and⁤ allow extra time for travel. People should also ensure their vehicles are in good condition, especially the brakes, battery, and windshield wipers.

**Host:** Marco, what measures are being taken by the ⁢Road Traffic Center to address the situation?

**Marco Ferrari:** We are actively monitoring road ⁣conditions,‌ providing real-time updates through‌ our website and social media channels, ‌and deploying additional⁢ crews to assist stranded motorists and⁣ clear snow. We urge everyone‍ to follow our‍ advice and ⁤exercise extreme caution.

**Host:** This situation serves as⁤ a stark reminder that weather can be ⁢unpredictable, especially in mountainous regions. What advice would you⁤ give to our ⁤viewers ‍traveling in similar areas⁤ during the winter⁢ months?

**Dr. Moretti:** Always be prepared.‌ Winter ⁤weather can change rapidly, so having the ⁢right equipment and‌ knowledge can be life-saving.

**Marco Ferrari:** Plan your journey carefully, check road conditions before you set out, and be aware of potential hazards.

**Host:** Thank you both for your valuable insights. We hope this information helps our viewers stay safe during the winter ⁤months.
