“It’s scary that we live in a country like this,” Jiménez told the New York Post yesterday, hours after being hit by bullets at the corner of Southern Boulevard and Jennings Street.
“I was very excited to visit New York… And well, it was the first day we got here, and it changed my perspective about New York,” the injured teen said. “We just never expected it to happen here in New York.”
A bullet passed through Jehieli’s hand and grazed her neck, while her mother’s chest was also hit by a shell as gunfire erupted in the street just before 9 p.m. “It was very scary” the young woman recalled. “I just heard a gunshot and my mom pulled me down and we ran to the back of the store.”
Her distraught mother added: “It was scary because I saw my daughter was bleeding from her neck and I thought the bullet had gone in. as a mother, I was thinking that my daughter was going to die.”
Jehieli’s father and two brothers were also inside the warehouse when the shots rang out. “My brothers were crying,” Jehieli said.
Moments before the mother and daughter were injured, a 22-year-old woman walking her dog was shot in the leg with a stray bullet a few blocks from the warehouse, the police said. The mother and daughter were treated at Jacobi Hospital before being released early yesterday morning. The other woman was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition, police said.
Authorities believe the two shootings are related.. Two gunmen on Citibikes were shooting to a car who was fleeing when the three innocent women were caught in the crossfire, the sources said.
