The Washington football team didn’t take the chance they had to win the National Association’s (NFC) Eastern Section and thus secure their ticket to the playoffs on Sunday at FedEx Field.
Indeed, the club of the American capital was defeated 20 to 13 by the Panthers of Carolina.
For the moment, Washington (6-9) is still installed at the first echelon of its section, she who holds the same record as the Dallas Cowboys. The New York Giants are also in the game, even if they lost their duel of the day.
To advance to the playoffs, Washington will need to win next Sunday against the Eagles and hope the Cowboys beat the Giants. The unnamed NFL team has the advantage over the Texan squad, having defeated them twice this season.
In his clash of the day, the Washington attack was led by Dwayne Haskins Jr., as Alex Smith is hampered by a calf injury. The pivot in post was not very good. He completed 50% of his runs for 154 yards. Haskins Jr. was unable to find the pay zone and suffered two interceptions. He was also replaced by Taylor Heinicke, who was unable to turn the tide.
In the Panthers (5-10), Teddy Bridgewater joined Robby Anderson for a major, running back Mike Davis crossed the goal line with the ball in hand and the special teams also made a touchdown.
As for the Cowboys (6-9), they defeated the Eagles (4-10-1) by a count of 37-17 in a clash at AT&T Stadium.
Texas quarterback Andy Dalton has shown he always has what it takes to lead an NFL team to victory, as he completed 22 of his 30 stints for overhead gains of 377 yards, in addition to having distributed the ball on three occasions for a major.
A record and victory for Herbert
At SoFi Stadium, young Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert broke an NFL record in a 19-16 win over the Denver Broncos.
In throwing a touchdown pass to Austin Ekeler, the pivot had his 28th six-point stint of the season. He broke the record for first-year quarterbacks. This one was 27 and belonged to Baker Mayfield.
Against the Broncos (5-10), Herbert completed 21 of his 33 passes for 253 yards. The Chargers’ other points came from kicker Michael Badgley’s leg. The latter succeeded in his four attempts, including one from 37 yards which gave the victory to his team at the end of the game.
In short
At CenturyLink Field, the Seattle Seahawks made sure to finish first in the National Association’s West Division by defeating the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 20-9.
