Keanu Reeves overcome with emotion as he remembers the film

Keanu Reeves, who appeared on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, had to briefly interrupt the interview when the host mentioned that The Matrix was celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The actor remained silent for 20 seconds while trying to find the right words to talk about the film.

The Matrix changed my life, and then over time, changed the lives of so many other people in really positive and wonderful ways. As an artist, you hope for that when you make a film or tell a story.

And he added: “When you talk about those years, the number of people that I’ve met and who have talked to me and been affected by Matrix in such a positive way… It’s the best.”

Why is Matrix a must-read in science fiction?

Directed in the late 90s by the Wachowskis, Matrix is a film that needs no introduction. But if by chance you have never tried to choose the red pill to follow Neo down the white rabbit hole, we cannot recommend enough that you give it a try, even if you are not particularly into science fiction.

Indeed, if we are talking here above all about a true classic of SF, we can also consider Matrix as one of the essential works of cinema, all genres and all eras combined. The spectators of AlloCiné were not mistaken in awarding it a score of 4,368 stars out of 5 (which makes it the seventh best science fiction film of all time on the site).

Featuring one-of-a-kind cinematography, absolutely revolutionary fight sequences and a particularly rich plot, the feature film starring Keanu Reeves (in the most iconic role of his career), Carrie-Anne Moss and Laurence Fishburne is a journey that every film buff must take at least once.

What is it about?

Thomas Anderson, a young computer hacker known digitally as Neo, works as a programmer for a large corporation during the day and operates clandestinely as a hacker at night. For the past few days, strange messages have been appearing on his computer screen, advising him to “follow the white rabbit” and warning him that he is currently in “the Matrix”.

Intrigued by these mysterious clues, Neo soon meets Trinity and Morpheus. These enigmatic characters who have been searching for him forever have an extraordinary revelation to make to him. But to learn this secret that could call into question his entire existence and to finally free himself from his chains, he will first have to choose between the blue pill and the red pill.

(Re)discover all the hidden details of “Matrix”…

For fans of the Wachowskis, France Télévisions is currently offering the documentary From “The Matrix” to “Sense8”, the Wachowski revolution, available until December 28, 2024.

“From “Bound” to the queer series “Work in Progress”, an exploration and decryption of the artistic work and revolutionary career of Lana and Lilly Wachowski. “Matrix” is the breeding ground where all the seeds of the filmmakers’ fight are sown. Feminism, anti-capitalism, transgender identity or racial justice are encoded in trench-coat action scenes or in metaphors loaded with symbols. The two sisters, as uncompromising in their societal fights as in their experimental aesthetic, are a happy Hollywood anomaly, a real flaw in the matrix, which it is time to rediscover.”
