Before the summer break, there was speculation that Daniel Ricciardo would replace Sergio Pérez at Red Bull. But the Mexican stayed and Ricciardo continued with the VCARB team. But not for long. There was little to talk about in Singapore except that it was more likely to meet an untimely end. And the team proved that today.
“All of us at VCARB would like to thank Daniel for his hard work with us over the past two seasons. He brought a lot of experience and talent to the team with a great attitude that helped everyone develop and strengthen a strong team spirit,” said team principal Laurent Mekies. “Daniel was a true gentleman on and off the track and he never smiled. We will miss him, but he will always have a special place in the Red Bull family.”
“I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Liam. He already knows the team. He rode for us last season and handled the challenging conditions well so it will be a natural transition. It’s great to see young talent from the Red Bull family taking the next step. We’re looking forward to putting our heads down and focusing on the rest of the season together.”
“I have loved this sport all my life. It is a wild and wonderful journey. I thank the teams and the people who contributed,” said Ricciardo. “To the fans who love the sport sometimes more than I do, haha, thank you. The h -always has its ups and downs, but it’s been fun and I honestly wouldn’t change it until the next adventure.”
Lawson will be replaced
VCARB confirmed that Ricciardo will be replaced by Liam Lawson. He made his F1 debut last year, when he replaced Ricciardo in five races, who was injured in training at the Dutch GP.
Júki Cunoda was previously confirmed as a VCARB rider for 2025. Lawson was confirmed today only until the end of this year.
