Krzysztof Piątek suffered an injury two days ago, after one of the air duels in the second half of the Bundesliga match between Hertha Berlin and Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen (2: 1).
According to the Polish Football Association, more detailed research has shown that the representative of Poland he suffered a fracture of his ankle.
Yesterday Hertha announced that it is the end of the league season for Piątek. Now The Polish Football Association officially confirmed that the 25-year-old striker will not go to Euro 2020 starting on June 11.
“Krzysztof sent me his tests and they did not look very good. The competitor had an additional medical consultation on Thursday, which was to answer the question whether the surgery was necessary. The worst case scenario is confirmed “ – reports the doctor of the Polish staff, Jacek Jaroszewski.
As he adds, after today’s surgery Krzysztof Piątek “will have a 3-4 month break, before he returns to the field.
“Unfortunately, Krzysztof’s participation in the upcoming European Championships is impossible. We are very sorry, this is sad news. We all keep our fingers crossed for Piątek to return to the field as soon as possible” – sums up Jaroszewski.
Krzysztof Piątek was one of our three strikers – next to Robert Lewandowski and Arkadiusz Milik – who could be almost certain appointments to the staff for Euro 2020.
So far, the 25-year-old has played for the national team 18 games and scored 8 goals in them.
He performed, inter alia, in the first three World Cup 2022 qualifying matches played in March: in a match with Hungary in Budapest, he entered the list of shooters.
In the colors of Hertha BSC, he appeared in 32 games in the 2020/21 season, scoring 7 goals in them.
