“It’s not too early”: a vaccination Sunday at Pithiviers hospital

As part of theacceleration of the vaccination campaign Wanted by the government, the Loirétains vaccination centers opened their doors this weekend of March 6 and 7. With different organizations, and numbers of doses.

This Sunday, March 7, the Beauce-Gâtinais Territorial Professional Health Community (CPTS), which coordinates vaccination in Pithiviers, was therefore on the bridge. This niche was particularly intended for 50-75 year olds with comorbid factors (diabetes, obesity, heart failure, etc.)

A peculiarity compared to other days: it is not the same vaccine. The CPTS thus had 60 doses of Astra Zeneca on Sunday., rather than Pfizer and Moderna, messenger RNA vaccines, hitherto used primarily for those over 75 years of age.

There was no hourly appointment, but registrations have been taken since Friday morning, when this new niche was communicated. Around 12:30 pm, twenty of these registrants are counted in the corridor; no problem, there are enough doses left for these, which will be given priority. New slots could be opened later, while those put in place since January are quickly full.

“Find a less locked-in life”

In the corridors on the ground floor of the hospital, the queue, appropriately distanced, extends almost to the hall, starting from the immunization room. Vital card in the hands, impatience contained in the feet. Warned of this new niche by her daughter on Friday, Michèle, 64, is delighted and wants to be positive: “For a year, we have been holding back from living, I hardly saw my grandchildren… If it accelerates and we can find a life less locked up more quickly, so much the better! “

The vaccination having started in mid-January, everything is running smoothly, under the watchful eye of Latifa Miqyass, general practitioner and president of the CPTS, who also gives her time this Sunday: “We give them a little questionnaire, we take their temperature, we check that they have not had Covid-19, and we vaccinate“.

“Have you ever had an allergy?”

In front of the reception table, questions follow one another from the medical staff : “Have you ever had an allergy to a vaccine or a drug?” A lady, in her sixties, replies that she has already had angioedema. “I must ask pharmaco-vigilance, take her number, we will call her back”.

Jacques and Denise, two octogenarians, introduce themselves in turn. “Ah, but better Pfizer, for you!” It turns out that there are some left in the fridges. Denise holds out her arm and, a few moments later, here she is vaccinated. “That’s very good! It’s not too early, we’ve been waiting for two months …”. The couple are invited to stay a quarter of an hour in chairs on the other side of the small room, just to make sure there is no problem with the reaction to the vaccine.

This Sunday, 60 people will have put a first foot (rather, a first arm) in a vaccination campaign that they hope will quickly give them a less constrained life.
