“It’s not pleasant but the work must move forward”: the construction site at Marina Baie des Anges is causing some residents tension

“Doing this in the middle of July and August is making fun of the locals.”Philippe scolds. This resident of Marina Baie des Anges in Villeneuve-Loubet can no longer stand the work being carried out at the foot of his building, the Amiral.

The latter overlooks the Cœur Marina construction site which will house – by spring 2025 – a Hilton hotel, a harbor master’s office, a spa and others.

“Those who live opposite must not be laughing”

For several weeks, workers have been building the future reception quay which will face the building.

Problem? It’s an advance over the water, therefore on soft ground. For everything to hold, it has to be fixed with stakes. And it’s stakes, they have to be driven in. That’s the whole origin of the uproar that some local residents like Philippe are denouncing. “I have several complaints from the residents of the Admiral, I explain to them that they have to be patient. It’s sure that it’s not pleasant, that it’s repetitive and that it’s hard, but the work has to move forward.”explains Frédéric Pelloux, the president of the trustee of this building and of the Ducal. Where Françoise lives (1): “I have a friend who lives in the Admiral who told me he couldn’t take it anymore. I didn’t suffer from it but it’s true that the people who live right across the street must not be laughing…”

Measures taken by the operator

Faced with these remonstrances, the operator Maribay assures that he is “aware of the inconvenience caused by these operations”But Nathalie Monturet, in charge of the site, is firm: “I can’t stop the work during the season, technically I can’t do otherwise.”

So, she took measures. Which are: three hours maximum of threshing per day until this Wednesday between 8:30 and 12:15 and 1:45 and 5:00; no work from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 August. Then, next week, from Monday 19 to Sunday 25 August: occasional threshing (not every day) with a limit of 3 hours per day. As of Saturday 24 August, these specific works will be finished but they will resume in October.

As a reminder: the Maribay company, in charge of the project, was fined 30,000 euros and was served with a formal notice by the prefecture for violations of the environmental code. There are concerns for drinking water. Further studies are expected.
