It’s not over: the hottest weekend of the year is coming

Forty-three degrees in the south, 40 in the north: next weekend will most likely be the hottest of the year. The high pressure of subtropical origin, in fact, will not abandon Italy for the next 7 days. “Temperatures – explains Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist of ‘iLMeteo.it’ – will rise by a few degrees until Sunday, most likely determining the hottest weekend of 2024: between Saturday 10 August and Sunday 11, maximum temperatures of up to 39-40 ° C are expected also in the North, in particular in Emilia Romagna, while in the South (especially in the internal areas of the Major Islands) we will rise again to 42-43 ° C as in Libya and Tunisia”. Meanwhile, in the next few hours, according to the expert, “the thermometer will rise up to 36 ° C in Rome, Terni and Foggia, 35 ° C will also be reached in Modena, Florence and Mantua. It will only be the beginning of a new heat wave that will persist in our country at least until the beginning of next week”.
Heat storms are still expected in the afternoon, sometimes strong, in Sicily, the Alps and the Apennines. On Wednesday the situation will be identical, clear and warm in the morning with some more intense storms in the afternoon, especially close to the mountains but not excluded in the plains. Despite these storms, the maximum temperatures will rise up to 37°C in Terni, 36°C in Ferrara and Rome, up to 35°C also in Bolzano and Bologna. But it will be especially from Friday that the thermometer level will soar. The extreme heat, at the moment, seems to want to leave our country around Ferragosto starting from the North, under the blows of storms and lightning.
