Jascha Samadi has set up one of the most important European crypto funds with Greenfield Capital. Most recently, he collected more than 135 million euros. In the podcast, the crypto investor talks about his view of the difficult crypto market, the hype surrounding digital clothing and the metaverse.
The crypto market is going through a difficult time, but Jascha Samadi sees his investment strategy as confirmed. The end of the FTX exchange and the crypto lender Celsius mainly affected centralized providers. But the investor relied on decentralized finance – Defi for short – early on.
For example, he used his fund to bet on the defi aggregator 1Inch, the Celo project, backed by the German founder Rene Reinsberg, or the multi-billion NFT bet Dapper Labs with the sports card provider NBA Topshots.
Who will win the battle for the Metaverse?
An important new topic is digital fashion, says the crypto investor. Last year, his fund invested in the Dutch startup The Fabricant, which sells construction kits for virtual clothing. It can be used in computer games or in video conferences. “We spend so much time in zoom calls,” says Samadi, which raises the question of why the virtual image should be dressed in physical clothing. Fashion is also an expression of identity.
In the future, Jascha Samadi hopes for a metaverse that will not be dominated by a tech company like Apple or Facebook. That would be “not healthy,” says the investor.
