The analysis firm IDC has just published its latest report devoted to the best-selling phones in the world. Against all odds, the winner is not an iPhone or a Samsung. It is not even a smartphone, but a feature phone, namely the Nokia 105, offered from € 19.99.

If smartphones occupy the media scene, we must not forget that feature phones like the Nokia 3310 reissue released in 2017 are still used by millions of people around the world. To be more precise, 1 milliard de feature phones are in circulation in 2021, according to the latest report from renowned analyst firm IDC. Another figure that testifies to the importance of feature phones: they represent 20% of total mobile phone sales.
Of course, the market leader operating system is none other than KaiOS, the OS used in particular on Nokia feature phones. At present, there are no less than 140 models under KaiOS, and this year alone, 156 million KaiOS devices were shipped, which is almost $ 3.8 billion.

Nokia 105 takes top-selling phone award in 2021
Knowing this, it’s no wonder that the top-selling phone between January and November 2021 isn’t an iPhone 12 or Samsung Galaxy S21. As the latest IDC report reveals, the best-selling phone in this period is none other than and Nokia 105 ! This phone, offered in both 2G and 4G versions, has the unbeatable price as its main argument: 19,99 € (2G) et 31 € (4G).
This model embeds the bare essentials and this is probably the reason for its success: a 1.77 ″ screen with a QVGA resolution (128 × 160), a Spreadtrum SC6531E processor, 4 MB of RAM and an 800 mAh battery offering 15 hours of communication. Made of polycarbonate, the phone is particularly resistant to impact and wear. It also has a 3.5 mm jack port and an integrated radio, not to mention the inevitable Snake game.
In total, the Nokia 105 launched in 2013 and 2017 were sold to 200 million units in 2021, the rest of the ranking being made up of the iTel IT2171, the Jio Phone, the Tecno T528 and the iTel IT5260. Nokia is also pleased with this performance on the Chinese social network Weibo: “Nokia phones are highly regarded in India especially for their build quality, reliability and functionality. With the Nokia 105, we are bringing a phone to consumers who are embracing mobility for the first time, offering them a phone with a long battery life and everyday essentials in a modern design ”.
