Europa League be the biggest hope Barcelona to win the trophy this season. Nevertheless, Frenkie de Jong judge there is no extra pressure for his team.
Barcelona has been knocked out of the Copa del Rey. While in LaLiga, Barcelona is in third place in the Spanish League standings with 48 points, 15 points behind Real Madrid.
So the Europa League is Barcelona’s only hope to win a trophy. The Blaugrana had to compete in the second European club competition after finishing third in the Champions League group phase.
Barcelona has already passed the first test in the Europa League by getting rid of Napoli. Xavi Hernandez’s troops are then awaited by Galatasaray in the round of 16.
Barcelona is predicted to be one of the favorite teams in the Europa League. The pressure for Barcelona in this competition is even greater because the Europa League is their last hope for a trophy this season.
However, Frenkie de Jong believes that there is no extra pressure on Barcelona in the Europa League. Even if he doesn’t win the Europa League, De Jong thinks it’s not a failure.
“We want it in the Champions League, but now that’s not the case,” said De Jong as reported by AS.
“Now we want to win the Europa League. But it’s not a failure if we don’t win, because there are good teams, although of course the target is to win this competition.”
“Usually we insist on all titles and if we strengthen ourselves well, I’m sure next season we can compete for all of them,” said De Jong added.
Barcelona will host Galatasaray in the first leg of the Europa League last 16 at Camp Nou on Friday (11/3/2022) early morning hrs.
