“It’s nonsense”: The government’s regional COPs are struggling to convince

After the international agreement, the regional imbroglio? If the State can no longer do everything, it thinks it can rely on the regions. Eight years after a COP 21 with objectives that had already become out of reach, the government decided that it was time to implement climate ambition on another scale. For the regions, the step is very high: according to the objectives set by the government, it will be necessary to reduce national CO2 emissions by almost 140 million tonnes by 2030. So divide them by two.

It is to Christophe Béchu, Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, that the government has entrusted the task of preaching the good word to the regions, departments and local authorities. Tuesday, November 14, as a man on the ground, the former mayor of Angers went to the “Eurometropolis of Metz” to explain to elected officials and association representatives how to implement France’s ecological objectives on their scale. To do this, the General Secretariat for Ecological Planning (SGPE) has planned everything, and has given duties to local stakeholders.
