The government’s idea is to complete the offer, the 1,500 vaccination centers that currently exist, to complete with large vaccinodromes, at least one per department, one to two per department. Details from Jean-Paul Hamon, general practitioner in the Paris region, Honorary President of the Federation of Doctors of France.
franceinfo: Jean-Paul Hamon, what do you think of this idea of the government?
Jean-Paul Hamon: Yes, they can complete the offer. But honestly, it’s to make beautiful pictures. You will indeed have a very large room in which you can put maybe ten doctors, ten nurses. But I can tell you that since the government wants to get closer to the people, I can’t think of anything better than the municipalities.
And there, I think that now things are perfectly fine. There is a departmental distribution center. People are going to get this at the distribution center. The cold chain is respected. People are eagerly waiting to get vaccinated. It is going very pleasantly because people are very happy to be vaccinated. Frankly, why make it complicated when the local level, the local municipal level, is perfectly suited? Well, if they want to make great pictures, they’ll make great pictures. But what is missing at the moment are vaccines.
So there is a technique for those who are not yet eligible for vaccination, it is to arrive at the vaccination centers when they close, and to be able to benefit from the additional doses, drawn from the vials that would be lost. If not, are you observing this in your center?
Ah yes, absolutely. We made some happy. Me, I remember, when we vaccinated the nursing home near my home, the nursing home doctor first phoned me to tell me that they had managed to take additional doses and therefore if there were volunteers. And then, at the end of the vaccination session, he told me I vaccinated everyone you sent me, but I still have 6 doses. They sent me the doses and I can tell you that I made six happy. I didn’t think 85-year-olds run so fast: 20 minutes later, I had 4 in my office.
And then, suddenly, I took the opportunity to vaccinate a secretary. And then other people who were at risk. And so, we made six happy. But really, I was very amused to see people coming in, an 84 and 85 year old couple who arrived with their stomachs down. It was very, very fun and very fun to do.
