It’s my health. Get vaccinated against Covid-19? Lack of doses and difficult appointments

It is difficult at the moment to get an appointment to be vaccinated. We talk about it with Jean-Paul Hamon, general practitioner in Clamart and president honor of the Federation of Doctors of France.

franceinfo: Is this a complaint from many of your patients?

I can tell you that I hear that every day, and almost at every consultation, when it comes to a fragile person. Because first of all, she spends a lot of time, either on the Internet which does not fully master. Good for me, in Clamart, the town hall has set up a switchboard, with ten people responding. So there, we managed to get the town hall number. And then they register people on, I believe that Clamart, it must be Doctolib.

There must be over 2,000 people on the waiting list. It will be long, especially since we have, as everyone knows, not many doses. So we have to do 420 vaccinations per week. So, at this rate, the 2,500 people who are on the waiting list are not about to be vaccinated.

Do you do the vaccinations? Are there people who wonder if they will have their second injection because it is essential to be truly protected against Covid?

So that was the question I was asked this morning since I am leaving the vaccination center. And all the people tell me but there is a vaccination date, so the vaccination date for us is always 4 weeks. But when they heard that it could last from five to six weeks, then I try to reassure them by saying: listen, if sometimes, in four weeks, we run out of doses, well, it will not be a drama if we are obliged to do it to you only in the fifth week.

There were recommendations from the Haute Autorité de santé which were clear, although the minister behind said: we are going to do four weeks. There is also this history of doses because we, currently, we are asked to do six doses systematically with a bottle of 5. Certainly, we can do it most of the time, but there, for example, today, the nurses were all saddened because there was only one vial, they were only able to do four doses. There was a small needle accident and therefore we only gave four doses, so there to systematically do six doses, I can tell you that it is an achievement.
