Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz shared the 4 Grand Slam titles of the season. For the first time since 2002, neither Novak Djokovic, nor Rafael Nadal, nor Roger Federer won a major title this year.
A stat that seems to confirm a little more the end of the era of the Big 3. Asked at a press conference after his victory in the US Open final, Sinner gave his feelings on the subject.
Jannik Sinner:
“Well, it’s a little different, for sure. I mean, it’s something new, but it’s also nice to see.
It’s nice to see new champions. It’s nice to see new rivalries. I’ve always had players and I’ll always have players that make me a better player because, you know, there’s going to be times when they beat me.
Then you have to try to find a way to win against certain players. And today we saw that everything was not perfect. I could have served a little better.
But, you know, it makes me realize that the work never stops. You always have to keep working, which means that at the end of the day, if you want to become a better player, you always have to work and have those daily routines, even in the tough moments on the court.
So it’s a good thing for tennis to have new champions.”
