Jakarta –
Connection Russia and United States of America (USA) is getting hotter. In addition to the Ukrainian affairs, this time it is about the claims of US submarines in its territory.
A Russian warship claimed to have chased a US submarine near the Kuril Islands. Russia said it was trying to drive the US out of the region but was ignored, leading to a chase.
It is known that the Russian Ministry of Defense report was delivered in the middle of a Russian military exercise. The warship Marshal Shaposhnikov has detected the US Navy’s Virginia submarine in Russian territorial waters near the Kuril Islands in the northern Pacific.
“When the US submarine ignored the request to come out to the surface, the frigate crew ‘used the proper means’ and the US submarine left at full speed,” the Russian Defense Ministry reported without providing further details.
The Russian Defense Ministry said it had also summoned the US defense attache in Moscow over the chase incident.
“In connection with the violation by a US Navy submarine on the state border of the Russian Federation, the defense attache at the US embassy in Moscow was summoned to the Russian defense ministry”, the Russian Ministry of Defense said.
US Response to Russia Report
The US military strongly denies the Russian Defense Ministry’s report. The US argues that the submarine is in international territory, not Russian territory.
“There is no truth to Russia’s claims to our operations in their territorial waters.” said a spokesman for US Indo-Pacific Command, Captain Kyle Raines.
“We are sailing and operating safely in international waters,” Kyle Raines continued, without elaborating on the exact location of the US submarine.
