Hugh Grant confirmed his return to Bridget Jones during The Graham Norton Show on Friday, October 4, 2024. The 64-year-old interpreter explained the details of his incorporation into the fourth film, Mad About The Boydespite the apparent death of his character.

The British actor described the script for the new film as a mix of humor and emotion.

An unexpected return

“It is a good and moving script; It’s fun but very sad,” said the actor about the new film. Furthermore, he admitted that his participation was forced: “There was no obvious role for me, but I was into it.”

The interpreter explained the adaptation of his character: “As we had a 60-year-old Daniel Clever wandering around looking at young girls, I invented a good interim story for him.”

To adapt his character of Daniel Cleaver, Grant created a backstory that justifies his presence in the plot.

In addition, he revealed that his intervention in the project lasted a week, “when they see the film, they will be very excited.” For its part, the production company Working Title announced the release of the film for Valentine’s Day next year.

From gallant to villain

Among other projects, the heartthrob will star in the psychological horror film “Heretic,” which will be released on November 15. In this film, he will play a man who kidnaps two young Mormon missionaries.

“I decided to play it like a modern academic,” he explained. “The movie gets darker and darker, so I thought everything that’s creepy would be doubly creepy if I made jokes at the same time.”

In a radical change of genre, the actor will play a villain in the horror film “Heretic.”

The actor prepared for the role by “reading a lot about serial killers and cult leaders” and even borrowed their looks. “Heretic” is written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, screenwriters of “A Quiet Place.”

Career in romantic cinema

Hugh Grant is known for starring in romantic comedies such as “Notting Hill,” “Love Actually” and “Four Weddings and a Funeral.” His role as Daniel Cleaver in “Bridget Jones” established him as a Hollywood heartthrob.

The fourth installment of the romantic saga will hit theaters next Valentine’s Day.

The actor mentioned that for 2016’s “Bridget Jones’s Baby,” he decided not to participate because his character didn’t fit. However, Helen Fielding’s script for “Mad About The Boy” convinced him to return.
