PARIS, KOMPAS.TV – French President Emmanuel Macron has chosen to distance himself from US President Joe Biden’s harsh comments about Russian President Vladimir Putin. This follows Biden’s strong statement about Putin when speaking in Warsaw, Saturday (26/3/2022).
During a visit to Warsaw, Biden said Putin “cannot be left in power”. Biden also called Putin a “butcher”. Earlier, he described the Russian president as a “war criminal”.
Macron also admitted that he did not agree with Biden’s comments when asked for comments on his Western ally’s remarks.
“We have to be factual and do whatever it takes to keep the situation from getting out of control,” Macron said in an interview with the television channel France-3 quoted Associated PressSunday (27/3/2022).
“I’m not going to use those terms (which Biden spoke), because I keep talking to President Putin, because what we want to do together is stop the war that Russia is launching on Ukraine, without starting another war and escalating it,” he continued. .

Since the start of the invasion, Macron has held several talks with Putin. He is scheduled to return on the phone with Putin on Sunday (27/3) or Monday (28/3).
Meanwhile, the White House has clarified Biden’s harsh statements in Warsaw. Washington insists they do not want to overthrow the current Russian regime.
On the other hand, Macron emphasized that the US is still an important ally in the issue of the invasion of Ukraine. However, he reminded Washington that those that would be directly affected were European countries close to Russia.
“We (US-France) have many values in common, but who stays next to Russia are the Europeans,” Macron said.
