No, you’re not dreaming… Maybe we’re finally going to see Half-Life 3 according to some Data-Miners!

Summary

  • So maybe?
  • Enough to give you a headache

So maybe?

For once, a new rumor is circulating on the Internet, teasing us about the potential preparation of one of the greatest video game mirages in history: Half-Life 3. So yes, this is the I don’t know how many times that rumors would announce the third opus of one of the most striking licenses in video games. However, this time, some evidence finally seems to lead to something concrete.

For a few weeks now, data miners have been breaking their teeth on Valve data. Recently, these inquisitors of the digital shadows have apparently detected some juicy information in updates of projects using Source 2. As a reminder, this is the engine used by Half-Life: Alyx and Counter-Strike 2.

According to them, a non-VR title, in which the HEV suit, well known to Half-Life fans, would be used, would be in development, with modifications made regularly.

Some influencers have even already started theorizing about this “future” game, like Gabe Follower • EN, who predicts an open world, in which one could use vehicles, with gravity changes included, whose story could take place largely on Xen.

Enough to give you a headache

Let’s remember that all of this is just speculation and nothing has yet been confirmed by anyone, much less Valve. But we can understand why everyone is getting excited. After all, Half-Life 2 is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and for those two long decades, fans of the franchise have only had Half-Life Alyx to sink their teeth into. Plus, it was a VR title, which is even less accessible than a regular game.

It’s a video game myth and it could well become reality: Half-Life 3 is well and truly in the pipeline and it’s already shaping up to be revolutionary.

As a reminder, Half-Life 2 ends with Gordon Freeman once again in stasis, in possession of the G-Man, waiting to be “liberated” once again.

While we wait for more information, Half-Life: Alyx is available on PC in VR.
