In the quiet streets of Fresh Meadows, a group of teenagers were walking along a sidewalk near 188th Street when two vehicles parked next to it… Several men got out and started arguing with two people who are part of the group.
Suddenly, several shots were heard.
“I saw all that yesterday. I saw the incident,” said Vanessa Ospina, the mother of a high school student.
-What happened? That you had?
“The girl who was shot in the neck here.”
The 14-year-old teenager was injured by one of the passengers in the vehicles who opened fire on the other two subjects… The girl had nothing to do with the altercation.
Two other 18-year-olds were shot in the leg and both are expected to recover.
Vanessa, who takes her daughter to a high school very close to where the shooting happened, fears for the safety of the young people and her neighborhood that she considered safe.

“It is a very horrible case, NY is very dangerous. We have to do something to fix the streets,” Vanessa said.
In the 107 police precinct that comprises this neighborhood, three shootings were reported in 2021.
Four days ago this year, another shooting was reported less than two miles from here. One person was injured.
Other students at an educational center just seven minutes from where the shooting took place lament the fact.
“Pobrecita, really,” said Frank Chimbo. “It’s a tragedy. I feel very bad. I hope they can recover.”
According to police data, in the first four months of the year there have been 376 shootings throughout the city.
In these shootings at least 37 minors have been injured and two died.
